Well, it’s FINALLY finished, my look at a handful of odd facts about Pokémon. Sorry if my voice sounds odd at times, I’m still getting over that cold.
Now considered the unofficial first episode of Jyger’s Favourite 5.
Yeah, just something I HAD to share with everybody I knew once I found out, sore throat or no.
For those that couldn’t read the text, I’ll read it off now: The official sequels to Pokemon Black and White have been unveiled, Pokemon Black 2 and White 2. Junichi Masuda announced this for all the world to see on Pokemon Smash. Not much is know at the point, whether these games take place in Unova, are a retelling of Black and Whte (third version), or even star the same cast. One thing that is known is that the version mascots are actually two new forms of Kyurem, apparently combined with Zekrom and Reshiram, making it an Ice/Electric type and an Ice/Fire type respectively.
…Anyway, since then we’ve learned that the games are also due for a release in North America in Autumn, which is super fast considering we just heard about them. They’re apparently made for the DS, but have enhancements available for if they’re played on a DSi or 3DS. So yeah, I suspect people will be pre-purchasing them pretty quickly. I know I will for sure.
So yeah, I’d originally planned to tackle this in a video, but since my cold’s still bugging me, I’m gonna take this on old school.
There have been a number of moments in the run of the Pokémon anime that have made me drop whatever I was hold and shout out “WTF?!” Not necessarily bad moments, just…weird moments, or moments that just caught me off-guard. So yeah, because I wanna share these moments with you all, here’s a collection of some of my WTF Moments in the Pokémon Anime.
In The Heartbreak of Brock, a girl named Temacu falls in love with Brock in the typical shoe-on-the-other-foot scenario. She even fantasizes the two getting married someday, all the while Ash and Misty are watching, which results in Misty saying THIS…
Now, I THINK the implication is that either Misty let her secret slip that she loves Ash and he freaked out, or she was talking about them getting married to other people and Ash overreacted. However, at the time that I first watched this, my thinking was that I’d missed an episode, they had gotten together, and now Misty was already planning out their china patterns. Naturally, I had to scramble to check to see if I’d missed an episode, and until I had an answer, you better believe I was freaked out.
In Ash’s battle against Liza & Tate for the Mind Badge, Pikachu and Swellow fly into some clouds and Pikachu fires off a Thunderbolt. The electricity is amplified and shot back at them, and instead of frying them (because remember that Swellow is weak to electricity), the huge electrical surge coats them in something called Thunder Armour that drastically increases their speed and power, even making them able to power through a Hyper Beam with no difficulty. What’s even worse is that Ash somehow knew that would happen and ordered Pikachu to do it. It was never used again, serving as Deus ex machina for that episode. BULLCRAP.
I should explain something first: Dawn’s Buneary tends to get on my nerves. Not because of her personality or anything, but rather something a bit more simplistic: SHE NEVER LEARNS ANY MOVES! She knows three moves from her introduction to the series and guess what? She never learns a single new move in the who-knows-how-many episodes that she’s in the show before Dawn leaves the group. So to see her actually join the Beat-A-Legendary Club was infuriating, although as I understand it Phione’s status as a Legendary Pokémon is a hotly contested issue. Me personally, I usually prefer to think of it as one, and don’t really wanna change my mind just because of this episode pissing me off. Would seem lame on my part.
This one seriously pissed me off, partly because it’s Ash’s Charizard, partly because his opponent is a Pokémon not even fully evolved, and mostly because Dusclops was winning by pelting Charizard over and over with Will-O-Wisps, a move that should have done JACK-FUCKING-SQUAT to Charizard! And I don’t care that it belonged to the Pyramid King, this still shouldn’t have gone like this. Also, the finisher came after Ash made a bad call to have Charizard use Seismic Toss, but if I saw my best Pokémon at the time getting his butt whooped in a scenario that made no sense, I’d probably pull something stupid outta my ass too!
I think everyone has talked about this one. Basically, Pikachu faces off against Blaine’s Rhydon and, finding that Pikachu’s having SERIOUS trouble, has Pikachu aim a Thunderbolt at Rhydon’s horn…and this knocks it out…That doesn’t even match up with the often-times bullshit physics used in the show! We’re told it works because the horn essentially acts as a lightning rod. Ignoring that that’s an ability of Rhydon’s in later games that does the exact opposite, as well as the fact that as a Ground type Rhydon is immune to electrical attacks, 18 episodes later a similar strategy is used on a Bellsprout, and guess what? DOESN’T WORK, because the electrical current is sent harmlessly through to the ground. When you have two episodes that aired less than 20 episodes apart that take the same plan and give two completely opposing theories on what would happen, YOU FAIL! And yeah, I know they were written by different people, but was NOBODY overseeing what they were doing?!
So anyway, those are the WTF moments that stand out most to me. Comment as you like, and by all means, add your own. And with any luck, I should be feeling better soon and can finish work on my newest vid.
So yeah, was filming for my upcoming video, 5 Bizarre Facts About Pokémon, when my throat started aching a bit. Naturally, I guessed that I’d thrown my voice out and decided that since I’d finished all my scenes where I’m on-screen that I should call it a night and finish the rest the next day. So I wake up this morning, and guess what? Not only is my throat still sore, but my nose is plugged. Yep, I have a cold. So I’m going to have to wait until I’m feeling better to finish recording, since my usual nasal voice is made well over 9000x worse when I have a cold, and I don’t think anyone needs to hear that.
On the plus side, I have been following along with information on Kingdom Hearts 3D as it is being released bit by bit, and honestly, the more that’s unveiled, the more excited I’ve been getting. The game will be out in Japan next month, meaning it’s almost certain to come out in North America before the turn of the year, to which I am VERY excited about. So for anyone that hasn’t been following along and is interested, here’s the newest trailer, now given English subtitles. Enjoy!
Not a rant, just me talking about what I bought today at the local comic book shop and sharing my thoughts on ’em. Not sure if I’ll do this again or not, but…meh, we’ll see.
Well, time for another WWE PPV, which means time for my predictions. Let’s not waste any time and dive into the first match predictions.
Well, if you saw my previous Jyger The Mark entry, you know how I feel about SOMEBODY in this match. Since I’ve already had my VERY angry rant about him though, I’ll opt not to talk about that again here. Instead, I’d like to point out, obvious that this is, that this is Daniel Bryan’s biggest challenge to date as far as defending his title. Should he win, he’ll move on to WrestleMania as the champion. And frankly, that’s what I’d like to see happen, for him to win this match and face Sheamus at WrestleMania, especially since the last time they were to fight at ‘Mania, it ended up becoming a Dark Match (non-televised match), which I felt was a slap in the face of all their hard work.
Predicted Winner: Daniel Bryan
Surprisingly enough, I am actually kinda interested in this match. I wanna see how these two match up in a one-on-one match where the belt is on the line. I’m thinking what will happen is that Beth wins, continuing the story wherein she claims there are no legit contenders for the title, which will likely lead to a match between her and Kharma when she comes back from maternity leave.
Predicted Winner: Beth Phoenix
A love triangle blossoming? Has John Cena embraced the hate? Will Kane emerge victorious, or will his own evil deeds be returned in kind? Has Zack Ryder officially become a Jackass stuntman? And can this scenario become any more like a soap opera?…Okay, seriously though, how much you wanna bet that Eve was in on this the whole time, that she was working with Kane? Wouldn’t surprise me one bit. Anyway, much as I don’t wanna go against Kane, Cena needs momentum going into WrestleMania, so I’m gonna say Cena for the win.
Predicted Winner: John Cena
…I find myself in an odd position with this match in that, honestly, I don’t really care so much as how this match goes as how the fallout goes. Basically, regardless of who wins this match, I see four of the six going back to business as usual, while the other two BETTER be having a match at WrestleMania. But since I HAVE to make a prediction, I’m gonna say Chris Jericho to somehow take the belt away from CM Punk, leading to a match between them at WrestleMania. Either way though, if WWE has any sense at all, and I feel that this is what they are going for anyway, they will set up CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho at WrestleMania, which would in my opinion steal the f-ing show. So why Jericho to win instead of Punk? Well, basically because I think if the belt is involved in their feud, Punk would operate better going into ‘Mania as the hunter, not the hunted.
Predicted Winner: Chris Jericho
Well, that’s all from me. Enjoy the show tonight, and hopefully I’ll be able to cover the results tomorrow. Ja ne!
Yep, I’m planning to do a short Q&A video. Basically just taking some time out to answer a few questions people might have about me. And who will be asking the questions? If you don’t know, kindly take the heaviest book you can find and give yourself a good thwack with it. IT’S YOU, YA SILLY PEEPS!
Basically, what I want people to do is ask me questions they’d like for me to answer in the comments section, though obviously I’m looking primarily for questions related to the blog. I guess geekier questions like “What’s my favourite episode of Pokémon”, “Who are my favourite Internet Reviewers” and the like are okay too. I’ll pick out the better ones, the ones I like, etc, and answer them in the video which I hope to have out by the start of March at the latest. So get cracking, because the sooner I have some decent questions to answer, the sooner I can get to work filming.
In the meantime, I’m still working on the next Kamen Rider Spotlight, I plan to do a list of Pokémon oddities I’ve found in my years as a fan of the games and tv show, and I’ve done THIS, my own personal fanmade ending for Botchamania. Enjoy!
Told ya more content was coming soon. Oh, and if you think I went nuts during my last video, just wait…
Oh, and in related news, expect written predictions for this Sunday’s Elimination Chamber PPV in the next day or so.
Sorry I haven’t posted lately, but I’ve been kinda busy. Work, volunteer work, having a social life (kinda), etc. Plus nursing this bad back of mine to health has taken up some time as well. Also, been taking in some of the feedback I’ve been getting for my first review and using it to determine how I should proceed. So yeah, not dead people, just taking a breather, expect new content soon. In fact, given some news I received this morning, expect said content to come sooner than later. Ja ne!
