So, since I’ve been getting back into Digimon as of late, I thought I’d go ahead and look at the trailer for the newest game in the series, Digimon World -next Order-.
…Okay, I find myself wanting to ask some questions and do some analysis, but how best to do that?
… … …Oh, I know! Haven’t done this in a while, but…
So, right off the bat, I can tell that this takes place in the same world as Digimon World and Digimon World Re:Digitize. Some of the locations look similar enough to those seen in previous games, but that have clearly been developed more since that time (remember that in the Digital World, time moves much faster). Also, the presence of Jijimon and a battle system similar to those games furthers that belief. However, the battles have a very obvious tweak added: You now use two Digimon instead of one. And hey, two’s fine. It’s not like some of the games where you have six. The only time I’ve ever been okay with a game having that many Digimon partners is when you play as multiple kids on the same team, like the Digimon Adventure 01 game, or when it’s a situation like Digimon Fusion. Otherwise, much as I like the Digimon RPGs for the Nintendo DS, that always bugged me a bit.
There are also two protagonists you can play as: A boy and a girl (and yes, we’ve got a female goggle head ^_^). However, something noteworthy that I can’t get past: The boy has Agumon and Gabumon as his initial partners, while the girl has Biyomon and Palmon. Now, the obvious reason I can think of is that Agumon and Gabumon are more associated with male protagonists in the games and anime, while Biyomon and Palmon are more associated with girls. With that said, though, I can’t help but wonder about something: Obviously, with two partners, Jogressing (DNA Digivolving) is gonna be a thing in this game, and we even see Omnimon in the trailer. So, my question is, does this mean Biyomon and Palmon can eventually Digivolve into two Mega Digimon that can also Jogress in this game? I mean, to keep things fair and even between the two protagonists’ Digimon? I know that’s what I would do. However, now all I can think of is Rosemon with wings. lol
Anyway, all things considered, the game looks good, and I hope to see it in North America… … …and, let’s be honest, beyond a fan-made patch, probably not. Still, I hope fans in Japan have fun with the newest entry in the series. Ja né!
So, every now and then, when I can’t quite go to sleep, I do a quick, routine check of social media, just to make absolute certain I’m not missing anything. Y’know, put my mind at ease. Well, last night was one of those nights. And what did I find? THIS:
“Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced today that Sony is bringing Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man. Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films. Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films. The new relationship follows a decade of speculation among fans about whether Spider-Man – who has always been an integral and important part of the larger Marvel Universe in the comic books – could become part of the Marvel Universe on the big screen. Spider-Man has more than 50 years of history in Marvel’s world, and with this deal, fans will be able to experience Spider-Man taking his rightful place among other Super Heroes in the MCU.”
…YEAH. So, Spidey’s apparently coming home to Marvel and will be playing a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, obviously, with a decision as big as this, there’s going to be more than a few questions. Namely, can this partnership stand the test of time? Can both companies keep their egos in check to make this as great as they can? Who will be playing Spider-Man? Will Spider-Man even be Peter Parker, or will it be one of his replacements, like Miguel O’Hara or Miles Morales? What does this mean for the other Marvel movies? Well, right now, it’s looking like Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Inhumans will all be pushed back a little, with Inhumans actually marking the end of Phase 3, but all things considered, that’s not so bad in the long run.
As for the lead role…well, here’s my personal reaction to the suggestion that Andrew Garfield won’t be Spider-Man anymore:
Seriously, unless they find a truly superb replacement, or want to go a different route than Peter Parker, I’d stick with Garfield. He knows what he’s doing, he knows the character, and while I get that this is a reboot, we don’t need to change EVERYTHING all over again for the second time in this movie franchise. Speaking of, I would avoid having the new movie be yet another origin movie. We KNOW the character’s origins. We’ve seen movies that tell the origin twice now. We don’t need three in fifteen years. And finally, and this is admittedly a long shot, but if Marvel Studios could re-cast J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, that’d be GREAT.
Yeah, I know, long shot. Anyway, leave your thoughts and feelings on this matter below, and we’ll see how things develop from now until 2017. Ja né!
Cried tears of joy when I saw that. I mean, I was already contemplating buying this game, but this sealed the deal for Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure. And speaking of tears of joy, that brings me to another major announcement: Kingdom Hearts III is now officially under development, FINALLY! lol
According to Square-Enix, “Believing light and darkness must remain in balance, Master Xehanort seeks to spark war against the ‘tyranny of light’ to restore equilibrium. In an effort to undermine Xehanort’s plot, Sora, Donald and Goofy search for seven guardians of light and the ‘Key to Return Hearts,’ while King Mickey and Riku search for previous Keyblade wielders.” So apparently, this is the one that’ll finally wrap up the Xehanort storyline. Also, it is set to be released on the PS4 and Xbox One, no word on the Nintendo Wii U, but I remain hopeful nonetheless.
So yeah, for anybody that says that Super Mario Bros. 2 doesn’t count toward Luigi and Peach being useful since it was a dream, guess what? lol And speaking of Mario, he appeared in a trailer for another game that I’ve been looking forward to…
I’m guess these are tentative titles, by the way. Oh, and if THAT wasn’t enough to get you hyped about the game, then there was the BIG announcement regarding a certain new challenger…
So yes, the current confirmed roster for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U consists of Mario, Donkey Kong, Fox, Samus, Pikachu, Link, Kirby, Bowser, Villager, Pit, and Mega Man. Also, looking like there will most definitely be a story mode of some sort, much to my immense joy.
Moving on, there was also a trailer for Pokémon, which confirmed a few things and revealed some new stuff…
Well, I think most of us called the Fairy-type, though a couple of the Pokémon that received it are kind of a surprise. Also, just gonna say it here, I am gonna have SO much fun with Pokémon-Amie. ^_^
And because I feel I should be generous and give credit where credit is due…Halo 5! 🙂
And that’s all for now. If there’s anything I forgot or just wanted to save for later, don’t freak, it’ll be up when it’s up. Ja ne!
